My grandfather was the first of Cornell’s PhDs in Computer Science. His two sons, my father and my uncle, both attended Cornell. My uncle completed his undergrad in Engineering and my father completed his undergrad, masters, and PhD in ILR. My mother, an Ithaca College graduate, married my father while he was working towards his PhD.
I’ve been affiliated with Cornell literally my entire life, and when I say literally, I mean that in the original sense: I was born in the final year of my father’s PhD, and aside from two years following my father’s graduation from ILR, I lived just off Cornell campus until I was 15, when my father took a sabbatical in Switzerland.
After a year abroad, I returned to Ithaca and spent the next two years earning an Associates in Science in Business Administration from Tompkins Cortland Community College, after which I transferred to the Hotel School.
I am the first of five siblings, the older of my two sisters, Amelia, being born just before I turned two, Samantha, the younger of my two sisters, was adopted just after I turned seven, YuYu, my older brother, a year later, when I was 8, and Mark, my younger brother, when I was 11.
